128,100 feet above Earth’s surface With a Go Pro

Share

On October 14, 2012, Felix Baumgartner ascended 128,100 feet above Earth’s surface to the edge of space in a stratospheric balloon. He broke the speed of sound while free-falling back to Earth, setting three world records in the process.

The stunt was called the Red Bull Stratos and it helped Baumgartner set three world records as he fell 128,100 feet to the Earth's surface. Video of his jump basically broke the Internet as everyone tried to wrap their brains around the idea that a dude just walked off the edge of a stratospheric balloon like it was the diving board at the YMCA.

The whole thing is pretty incredible, and speaks to GoPro's ability to capture the sort of extraordinary moments that we haven't previously been able to see on camera. The company will also air a 30-second Super Bowl ad showing a third person view of Baumgartner disappearing into space.

"Sometimes you have to get up really high to see how small you are," he says
